MPCore.us – Matthew Whitaker, the new Attorney General’s official, was previously removed from his position as chief of staff in Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s office since October 2017.
Whitaker, 49 years old, was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He holds a law degree from the University of Iowa. He was also a sports star of American football or football at university and played in the 1991 Rose Bowl.
Former President George W. Bush appointed him as a Federal Lawyer in the southern Iowa district in 2004.
He had tried to run for the Senate in Republican primaries in 2014.
Whitaker will now oversee Special Investigator Robert Mueller’s investigation of the possible Trump campaign to collude with Russia in the 2016 elections, and whether Trump is trying to hinder law enforcement.
Whitaker had criticized Mueller’s investigation before joining the Prosecutor’s Office last year.
He once appeared on CNN where he said, the attorney general had the authority to cut the budget for Mueller’s team and stop the investigation.
He also wrote that he believes Mueller’s investigation has exceeded his mandate and that Trump’s financial problems should not be tampered with by special investigators.
